Shorts for Middle Ones 2018

Fresh and inventive, this collection of new short films from around the world offers something for everyone from the age of eight and up. A mix of both live action and animation, these films offer some very distinctive world views.

We watch relationships develop through the power of sport (gymnastics and basketball), the paper-based genesis of a new canine superhero and visit a chic Parisian restaurant with a truly unique menu for its most discerning clientele. We watch a fresh way of interpreting art in a gallery, and see how an old, forgotten Rubik’s Cube finds a whole new audience. The dark and dangerous realities of the deep are chillingly explored in an ecological twist on the unseen world of the Blue Planet.

Plus there are some madcap antics in two very different films about what happens when a pair of budgerigars suddenly discover their freedom… Nearly all the films are dialogue free, with a couple in English – and one which has some brief subtitling of the original Arabic.

Please note: This selection is intended for audiences aged 8+. There are some action sequences that younger or more sensitive children may find scary. Please ask a member of the DCA Box Office or Cinema team if you'd like more information.

Join us for a fun workshop after the Sun 21 screening. The workshop costs £1 with your Shorts for Middle Ones cinema ticket: just add to your basket when booking for the film. Accompanying adults must also have a workshop ticket.
